Specialised Tracking resolutely believes that a tracking system can be a huge asset to a company or an immense liability.
SpecialiSed Tracking identifies key factors in our client’s businesses and then structure the programs according to their modus operandi. By tailoring the tracking system around a client’s business or management style, we can turn this investment in to one of your company’s biggest assets.
Where does the system become an asset?
This can only happen if data is scrutinized, recognized and acted upon. It is most important to build the correct foundation when setting up the platform.
We break the business up in to a number of categories, based on:
With a user-friendly interface and the supply of critical data, you now have a tracking solution that is utilizable. In order to recoup the financial expenditure on any system, it is imperative to have a very clear understanding of how to use the system, not just at surface or interface level. The platform must be designed and built by a person who has both extensive machine or fleet knowledge and experience, along with substantial computing skills.
Where does the system become a liability?
Over the past thirty years, I have gained a vast knowledge of machinery, logistics, and a wide variety of operations. From providing assistance in rectifying design faults, to the design, patenting, production, and manufacturing of equipment. I have taken my knowledge and experience with machinery and incorporated it into a satellite tracking program. Having owned and operated a plant hire business for sixteen years, I saw the necessity to gain better control of my equipment and vehicles. This inspired me to customize tracking systems for my clients and provide meaningful data analysis for their operations.
In a tough economic climate, I have found that it is vital to identify unnoticed losses creep into businesses. The primary one is unscheduled trips. Very often plant managers do not see the necessity of controlling these trips, these are hidden costs that only surface in budget meetings but still cannot be accounted for. Fuel usage, wear and tear, wage loss and loss of productivity can put huge pressure on a business. From my experience, I often find, one unscheduled trip leads into a secondary trip, hence doubling the loss. These are only but a few points in the whole equation, the latent losses are the ones that eventually sink a business.
Very often, one will overlook the cost of using the wrong machine for the wrong job. It is most important to balance one’s fleet from the start. Buying the right equipment can determine the profitability of one’s business. Unfortunately, human nature allows habits to be formed, unknowingly these habits eat away at the profit margins. I cannot emphasize this enough, use the right machine for the job. By balancing the fleet, one may find that fleet size may be reduced or productivity increased by running a smaller or larger machine depending on the application. I developed a program to assist my clientele in balancing their fleets. Balancing the fleet is an extremely important aspect of any business that runs any type of vehicle or equipment.
By having exact knowledge of where and what your machines are doing, one can now manage staff in a more productive manner and minimize operating costs. It is imperative to set up the correct platforms and adhere to the information you now have at hand, as a management tool. The whole exercise is pointless, should you not use this information to reduce costs and increase productivity.
